Orthomolecular-Based Medicine

First coined by twice Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling. "Ortho" means correct and "molecular" refers to the smallest unit of organic matter. Molecules are atoms bound together by a unique geometric structure.  The principle of Orthomolecular Medicine is that the brain/mind/spirit continuum is designed to work best using the same key molecules nature supplied for millions of years.   Orthomolecular practitioners use a supply of unpatented highly concentrated foods, nutrients, herbs, hormones, color, sound or fluids found in nature or manufactured in the brain to manipulate biochemical ratios and levels.  "Orthomolecular medicine" is akin to “Nutritional Medicine” with the notable exception that orthomolecular based medicine has traditionally specialized in the physical nervous system - the brain and the spinal cord (affecting genetics, behavior and mind) while the practice of Nutritional Medicine is much more generalized and family oriented.  Dr Beveren was invited by Pat Hite – then president of the Holistic Practitioners of the Princeton Area and Dr. Carl C. Pfeiffer of the then Princeton Brain Bio Center to begin a practice on the East Coast – in addition to maintaining the Southern California based office.  That was a tiring decision as Dr. Van Beveren was forced to become bi-coastal for the space of three years before finally being able to focus his entire attention to the East Coast office near Princeton.  While Dr Pfeiffer never developed a true love for the word “orthomolecular” he did in fact practice this kind of nutritional medicine with great skill and precision and our minds are filled with gratitude for his incredible contribution to the field.
